Setting up an integration between FireTail and Slack enables you to connect alert and incident notifications to Slack. When you create an alert or incident you will be able to select the Slack Webhook integration you have created as the method of receiving notifications. To set up a Slack Webhook integration, you first need to create a relevant channel in Slack, this is the channel the notification is sent to.  Information on how to create a channel in Slack can be found in the Slack help center.

When the channel is created, you need to create an app in Slack.

1. In Slack, navigate to Manage apps. The manage apps page opens in a new tab.

2. In the top right, click Build.

3. Click Create New App.

4. Select to create an app From Scratch.

5. Enter a name for the App and select the appropriate workspace from the dropdown. Click Create App.

6. Click Incoming Webhooks.

7. Toggle on to activate incoming Webhooks.

8. Click Add New Webhook to Workspace.

9. Select the appropriate channel from the dropdown. Click Allow.

  • This then generates a Webhook URL. Copy the URL. This is used to finish creating the integration in the FireTail platform.

When you have the app created and you have copied the URL,  return to the FireTail platform and complete the integration:

  1. Navigate to Integrations in the FireTail platform. Select the Create integration tab.
  2. Click Slack Webhook.
  3. In the My Integration field, enter a name for the integration.
  4. The integration is Enabled by default. To make the integration inactive, clear the check box.
  5. Paste the Webhook URL you have copied into the Webhook field.
  6. (Optional) Edit the Slack payload if required. This is the information that is populated in the Slack notification when an alert is triggered. For a list of all tokens, go to Dynamic variables. Learn how to Customize notifications.
  7. Click Submit.

A test message is immediately sent to the Slack channel.

The integration is created and listed under the existing integrations tab You can now select this integration as a notification method when you create an alert or create an incident.
